So long, Blogspot. Hello, Wordpress!

I've been wanting to move my blog away from Blogspot for a while but could never be bothered to actually do it. This week was the tipping point though, and I've now fully migrated over to  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . The blogspot address will remain here but all new posts will only appear at  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ .  There are lots of reasons for the move but my biggest one is how hard Blogger has made it for people to subscribe to receive new posts via email. It's such a basic requirement but apparently, they think it's too much to offer.  I'm basing this purely on how I myself prefer to consume this stuff. I can't be arsed with feed readers anymore and emails are easy and convenient. When I receive one, if I fancy reading it, I will click through to it and, if not, I'll just delete it. Another reason is the spat between Google (owners of Blogger) and Instagram/Facebook/Meta. I don't even know if this is still the case anymore ...

{Helen's Closet} Winslow Culottes

Hello all! Today I have a quick and dirty post about a very simple project I finished a couple of weeks ago. It's the Winslow culottes from Helen's Closet . As I've already said, it's super simple but don't let that fool you: it's such a great pattern. Ever since I made this one, I've been obsessed about it and I want to make more Winslows out of every fabric I see. You think I'm kidding? I am not. The pattern itself is dead easy to make. It took me no time at all to cut - maybe about 20 minutes - and they came together in one afternoon. This was another buddy sewing session with Mel , so make sure you check out her version. We picked very similar colours but the fabrics are completely different. There are 4 different lengths offered: shorts, knee, midi and full length. Mine is a straight size 10, view C, midi length. I am not exaggerating when I say this is one of the comfiest things in my wardrobe. The fit is spot on. I only had to worry about...

{Maven Patterns} The Rochester Dress

The dress I'm going to share today is a very special one indeed. It was made with special fabric, for a special occasion and it was another buddy sew with Mel. It's the  Rochester dress  by Maven patterns. Mel was the one who introduced me to the pattern and it's really, really lovely. I wasn't planning on making it but things changed when we booked our Bitchmas weekend. I went down to London and stayed over at Mel's. We managed to fit a lot in, including the New Craft House winter party, and finished the weekend off with a super fancy afternoon tea at The Langham Hotel . Obviously, I wanted to make something lovely to wear for it. I knew I wanted to use this gorgeous  Granito Chestnut  viscose by Atelier Brunette that I bought from Harriet at Sew Me Sunshine as soon as it was available. But I was stuck on what pattern to make. I wanted sleeves and a high-ish neck, not too short and fairly loose. Mel suggested the Rochester and it fit the bill. I've wo...

{New Look} 6341 in Liberty Carline

I can't believe it's been 3 weeks since my last blog post! I have been sewing a lot but between the Easter holidays and our trip to France, I haven't had time for blogging.  We had a G-L-O-R-I-O-U-S Easter weekend around these parts. It was sunny and warm and perfect. I went to London on Saturday to see  Aladdin - The Musical  again, this time with Nina. It was still spectacular the second time around. On Sunday, I did precisely nothing and today we went out for a nice breakfast and to get in on the Hotel Chocolat sale. My Easter starts now, thank you very much. 😆 I also finished 2 books, which has been a long time coming. My reading this year has been shameful.  For our Leeds outing this morning, I decided to wear a dress I made last summer but had only worn once so far. I also never blogged about it and I thought it was about time. It's one of my favourite dresses and I need to show it some love, so here is my New Look 6341 . This is a little gem of a pat...

{Jennifer Lauren Handmade} Ivy Pinafore in denim

I'm back with my new Ivy pinafore. Isn't she preeeeettay??? When I bought the denim  from Sewisfaction for my  Ginger jeans  I bought enough to make an Ivy as well. The  red one  was more like a trial run to see how the pattern would suit me. I think I mentioned in that post that the red babycord was a bit too lightweight for the pattern. Don't get me wrong, it still works and I've worn it a few times but it could do to have more body. This denim is perfect though. It does have some stretch but I didn't find that to make much of a difference, except for one small thing: that weirdness going on around my dart. Can you see it? It kind of sticks out. I can't decide if I stretched it or if the dart is sitting too low. It's only visible in this photo above. I'll have to pay attention when I wear the red one again and compare but I'm sure I would've noticed it if I noticed it on this one. I think it's just a case of pressing it too vigorou...

{Jennifer Lauren Handmade} Ivy Pinafore

Until I succumbed to the Cleo fever  a few months ago, I never paid too much attention to pinafores and/or dungaree dresses. To me, they have been synonym with primary school uniforms and, consequently, not something I'd expect to find in the wardrobe of an almost 40-year old woman. I am happy to announce that Cleo completely changed those views, however. I have two of them now (there's a denim version , too) and I wear them a lot. But I wanted to try something a little bit different. Maybe one that looked a little more dress than dungaree? So when I found the  Ivy Pinafore  I couldn't stop thinking about making one for myself. As usual, this pattern had passed me by until I suddenly took notice of it. Why am I always doing this? Anyway, it's such a cute little dress and I am over the moon with how it turned out. The Ivy is a tent dress: more fitted around the bust and then it expands down in an A-line shape. There is a very swingy version and a more...

{sewing} I'm back in the game!

It's been a while. Mostly due to moving house and all the adjustments that go with that. Before and afterwards. I didn't touch my sewing machine for months. But the dust seems to have properly settled now and I feel I'm ready to revive the blog. Today I'm going to share a skirt I was inspired to make after seeing  La La Land  for the first time.

{sewing} Colette Zinnia skirt

Yes, it looks like I'm on a roll at the moment. I've been super productive these last few weeks and I'm loving it! The only problem is that I've been churning out so many new things that I can't keep up with the blogging. Gaaahhh! I guess you win some and you lose some, right? Anyway, today I've got the  Zinnia skirt  by Colette Patterns. I have had my eye on this skirt since I started getting into sewing, a couple of years ago. I've always thought it looked beautiful and wanted to make one for myself. Fast forward to a couple of months ago: Zinnia was Colette's pattern of the month, which means it was on sale, and I decided to bite the bullet and go for it. Boy, am I glad I did!

{sewing} Sew Over It Tulip Skirt in Florence!

Hi there! I'm back again and this time we're in Florence, Tuscany. We used Florence as a base and visited Pisa and Siena while we were there. It's one of those places that, no matter where you go, you will find something interesting to look at or do. I actually regret that we didn't spend more time there, so we'll have to go back and fix that. ;) Today I'm sharing my  Sew Over It Tulip Skirt , which I really love but I was having a terrible sewing day while I was making it.

{sewing} Chardon Skirt

The next project I'd like to share is the gorgeous Chardon skirt by Deer and Doe. I can't overstate how pleased I am with it! It's a high waisted skirt with inverted box pleats all the way around. The contrast band is an option, as well as a bow on the back, which I chose to omit. Deer and Doe Chardon
