So long, Blogspot. Hello, Wordpress!

I've been wanting to move my blog away from Blogspot for a while but could never be bothered to actually do it. This week was the tipping point though, and I've now fully migrated over to  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . The blogspot address will remain here but all new posts will only appear at  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ .  There are lots of reasons for the move but my biggest one is how hard Blogger has made it for people to subscribe to receive new posts via email. It's such a basic requirement but apparently, they think it's too much to offer.  I'm basing this purely on how I myself prefer to consume this stuff. I can't be arsed with feed readers anymore and emails are easy and convenient. When I receive one, if I fancy reading it, I will click through to it and, if not, I'll just delete it. Another reason is the spat between Google (owners of Blogger) and Instagram/Facebook/Meta. I don't even know if this is still the case anymore ...

{Hey June Handmade} Trevi Dress

Today I'm sharing a slightly seasonally inappropriate dress. Not only is it a racerback cut, but I've also made it out of linen... I've had it on my list to make for ages and I'm glad I've finally done it! It's the Hey June Handmade Trevi dress and I'm really happy with it. The drafting and instructions are the usual high standard I've come to expect from Hey June and now I want to make the top version as well. I made a size 2 without FBA. A few of Hey June's patterns offer a version with a dart added on, for anyone who needs a full bust adjustment. Isn't that great? It's a very simple dress: classic shape, curved hem, racerback and look at the button back! I really love it. All the edges are finished with bias tape, which is something I enjoy doing but I'm aware not everyone feels the same way about it. My fabric, as I've said, is linen. I got it at Merchant and Mills  in the summer, when I visited with Mel. ❤ It seems softer than o...

{Maven Patterns} The Rochester Dress

The dress I'm going to share today is a very special one indeed. It was made with special fabric, for a special occasion and it was another buddy sew with Mel. It's the  Rochester dress  by Maven patterns. Mel was the one who introduced me to the pattern and it's really, really lovely. I wasn't planning on making it but things changed when we booked our Bitchmas weekend. I went down to London and stayed over at Mel's. We managed to fit a lot in, including the New Craft House winter party, and finished the weekend off with a super fancy afternoon tea at The Langham Hotel . Obviously, I wanted to make something lovely to wear for it. I knew I wanted to use this gorgeous  Granito Chestnut  viscose by Atelier Brunette that I bought from Harriet at Sew Me Sunshine as soon as it was available. But I was stuck on what pattern to make. I wanted sleeves and a high-ish neck, not too short and fairly loose. Mel suggested the Rochester and it fit the bill. I've wo...

{Tilly and the Buttons} The Indigo smock dress

When the  Indigo dress came out I wasn't bothered. I had just bought the  I AM Cassiopée  and didn't think I'd need another smock style dress in my life. I wasn't even sure if the shape was for me at that point. I have since made the Cassiopée twice and I wear them a lot. I still wasn't convinced I needed another pattern that was so similar though. But then,  Fabricate  had a party to launch their new shop location and I wanted to attend. Obviously, I'm still on a fabric buying ban until January and couldn't buy any fabric so I bought an Indigo pattern that night instead. I am so in love with this dress!!! How can something so simple look so good? I think the fabric plays a massive part though. Ever since I saw  this chambray version  that Caroline made I have wanted to make a similar one. It just works. My fabric came from  Ray Stitch  when I visited last month. I can't find it on their website but I also can't remember the name so it...

{Tilly and the Buttons} A Stevie top - or two.

After I made my first  Stevie , I knew I'd want a few more in my life. I wanted to use one of the fabrics I brought with me from our summer holiday but I didn't have enough of it; so I moved on to something else until I settled on a different fabric.  On one of my recent trips to  Fabricate , I came across this gorgeous  Dashwood Studio  cotton and I knew straight away that I would turn it into a Stevie. The problem was, instead of trusting my previous version and the pattern itself, for some unfathomable reason I thought I would go down a size. Sure enough, it was preeeeeetty tight around the bust/underarm area and a bit restrictive. I was so miffed. Luckily, it fit my daughter perfectly so on it went into her wardrobe. All is well and good and far as wasted time and effort go, but my wardrobe is still short one gorgeous Stevie of dreams, ins't it? So what's a girl to do? Why, trek all the way up to Fabricate again, buy the fabric again, print the PD...

{Tilly and the Buttons} Stevie dress

Hello again! I have such a massive backlog of finished stuff to share here that I probably could get away without sewing until the end of the year! We went gallivanting around New England a couple of weeks ago and I was on a mad mission to sew a crap tonne of stuff before we went. Funnily enough, the project I'm sharing today was not one of the ones I made for my holiday... Only because the new  Stevie  pattern by Tilly and the Buttons came out just before we were due to go and I didn't get a chance to whip one up to take with me. However, I saw to it just as soon as I got back home and felt like my brain could handle sewing again. Unfortunately this only happened last weekend - damn you, jetlag!

{Deer & Doe} Datura two ways

As I sit here watching France play Croatia in the World Cup Final, I thought it'd be fitting to share my two versions of the  Datura blouse  by Deer & Doe. Even though I want Croatia to win. Sorry, France. Deer & Doe are probably my favourite pattern company. I have made a few of them and have plans for a  Mélilot  soon.

{Lisette for Butterick} Floral 6183 trouser fail

These trousers started off as a disaster of epic proportions. I made this pattern for the first time last year . I really like them and wanted a pair for summer. The fabric is (I think) a viscose crepe that I've had in my stash for about 2 years. It was very slippery at times but mostly fun to sew. It pressed beautifully but it doesn't crease much. I'm still unsure as to the suitability of this fabric to the pattern. I think it's too lightweight but the finished trousers do match the vision of what I was going for. It has worked at least aesthetically if not structurally.

{Lisette for Butterick} B6183 - baggy trousers!

Haha! That's right, I made me some baggy trousers! And I love them. I don't even know how I came across this pattern but I'm very glad I did. The trousers are fab and I think the top looks really cute, too. The trousers have a culottes option as well. I've already traced it but still need to find some fabric for it. Excuse the wrinkles, I'd been sat at the sewing machine before we took these pictures.

{sewing} Sew Over It Carrie trousers

That's right, people! I. Made. Trousers. TROUSERS! T-R-O-U-S-E-E-E-E-E-R-S!!! Trousers that stay on and everything. Trousers that I'm proud to wear outside the house! That's right. I made trousers and they are a success. I have wanted to make some loose fitting trousers for myself for quite some time now. It was actually on my list of things to tackle last year. I even bought the fabric. But it never happened. Among other things, I hadn't found a pattern I liked enough yet. However, the universe works in mysterious ways and it came to pass that a couple of months ago, I got the email from Sew Over It telling me they'd launched an online  trouser-making workshop . I signed up immediately.
