Showing posts with the label collar

So long, Blogspot. Hello, Wordpress!

I've been wanting to move my blog away from Blogspot for a while but could never be bothered to actually do it. This week was the tipping point though, and I've now fully migrated over to  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . The blogspot address will remain here but all new posts will only appear at  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ .  There are lots of reasons for the move but my biggest one is how hard Blogger has made it for people to subscribe to receive new posts via email. It's such a basic requirement but apparently, they think it's too much to offer.  I'm basing this purely on how I myself prefer to consume this stuff. I can't be arsed with feed readers anymore and emails are easy and convenient. When I receive one, if I fancy reading it, I will click through to it and, if not, I'll just delete it. Another reason is the spat between Google (owners of Blogger) and Instagram/Facebook/Meta. I don't even know if this is still the case anymore ...

{Hey June Handmade} Cheyenne Tunic

It seems I am feeling motivated enough to keep on blogging, doesn't it? I'll keep riding this wave for as long as I can but I'm not making any promises... Today I have another shirt to share. Yes, another shirt. No, no one is surprised. But wait... What? Maybe you will be a little bit surprised if I say it's a pattern I haven't made before! Whut? 🤯 Yep, it's the Hey June Handmade Cheyenne Tunic . Hey June Handmade Cheyenne Shirt That's right. I've finally moved on to a different shirt and I think it is now my favourite casual, loose-fitting shirt pattern. I will tell you why. Reason number 1: there are several variations. Different sleeves, neckline, length and all sorts of smaller details as well. I'm already planning a v-neck option soon. Reason number 2: the instructions and drafting are outstanding. I've made a few Hey June patterns and they are consistently good and informative. Reason 3: maybe I just needed a change? I mean, I still love t...

{technique} How I sew a collar

In preparation for the #rosasewalong , today I'm sharing a step-by-step guide on how I insert my shirt collars. Tilly's pattern instructions are some of the best ones around. They're very detailed and with clear pictures. Having said that, I prefer to insert my collars differently from what's outlined in the Rosa instruction booklet. I like to think I've come a long way from my first ever button-up shirt . Although I still have it in my wardrobe, I wear it and I don't think I'll ever get rid of it, it was a bit of a disaster. Mostly owing to the collar. In hindsight, I was far too inexperienced a sewist to have attempted it then. I had no idea how to insert a collar, I didn't know I had to ease in excess fabric and the instructions on that pattern, although perfectly adequate, are a bit on the minimal side. Fast forward 3 years and I've made a few shirts  and  shirtdresses  and there are many others I have never blogged about. It's safe to ...

{Deer & Doe} Datura two ways

As I sit here watching France play Croatia in the World Cup Final, I thought it'd be fitting to share my two versions of the  Datura blouse  by Deer & Doe. Even though I want Croatia to win. Sorry, France. Deer & Doe are probably my favourite pattern company. I have made a few of them and have plans for a  Mélilot  soon.

{Deer & Doe} Bruyère Shirt

As some of you may know, we've been having a bit of a hard time with Johnnie, our old boy. He can't move his hind legs because we think a disc has slipped and is pressing on his spinal cord. He's in no pain, which is the most important thing, but he needs constant care, assistance to go to the loo, eat, drink, etc. I've not done a lot of sewing recently but finishing this baby has got me motivated to get back to it properly.

{McCall's} M6885 Shirtdress

Now that I proved to myself that I can sew a decent collar, it looks like I've developed a shirtdress addiction. Which this time around is being fuelled by  McCall's M6885 .

{McCall's} 6696 Shirtdress

Isn't wonderful when a plan comes together? Isn't it even better when a plan you weren't expecting to come together comes together anyway? I give you McCall's 6696!

{Sew Over It} Susie Blouse number 2

Hello! Today I'm going to talk about my second go at the  Sew Over It Susie Blouse . I made it once before and you can find that post  here . I really enjoyed making it then and I wanted to make another version. This time, with the 3/4 length sleeve. Here it is.

{sewing} The Susie Blouse by Sew Over It

Oh, I've let the posts lapse again... I know, I'm rubbish. But, to be fair, I don't get anywhere near as much sewing time as I'd like. So when I get some free time I'd rather be sewing, not typing up a blog post. Yes, I've said it. I'm not even sorry. ;) Anyway, today I'm showing off my  Sew Over It Susie Blouse .

(sewing) Another Colette Hawthorn

Hello, again! It's been a while, I know. But that's because I thought I didn't have anything to show... As it turns out, I forgot to post this one that I made last year to take with me to Brasil last December! Yes, I'm rubbish. But my Hawthorn is gorgeous, look!

{sewing} Another day, another dress...

Today I'm showing another dress. My favourite of all the ones I've made so far! This here be McCall's M7081 . It's got a gorgeous full skirt, there are pleats on the front of the bodice, a collar and a waistband. It opens with a concealed zip on the side. Isn't it a thing of beauty?!

{sewing} The Hawthorne dress by Colette patterns

Hello, again! Happy new year and all that! So, guess what I've learned so far this year? It's a hell of a lot harder than I expected to get back into your old routine after 3 weeks on holiday. Who'da thunk it?! And I haven't even started going through the photos we took of stuff I made to take with me... The good news is that I found these in my laptop that I'd forgotten about. So I'll post them and, in the meantime, I can go through all the new photos and edit them.

{sewing} Finished Coco

The run of bad luck seems to have stopped now. Jolene has been fixed, brought home and even finished the Granville shirt - except for the buttons. Phew! And I have a new dress to show off! I finished it a few weeks ago but today is the first time I've worn it. It's one of those "secret pyjama" outfits and I really love it. Not to mention that it makes me look way more dressed up than my usual choice. A bonus of sewing my own clothes: what's the point in making scruffy stuff?

{sewing} Moneta the II

Today I'm going to show off my second  Moneta dress by Colette Patterns! I personally love it. It looks great and it feels like I'm wearing pyjamas while being socially acceptable to wear it outside the house!

{sewing} New Look 6808 fail

Right, so... New Look 6808 . When I finished it, about 4 months ago, I loved it! Really, really loved it. I hadn't done a lot of sewing in general and I was very happy with it. A few months down the line, quite a bit of experience gained and I'm not quite so pleased with it anymore... Então ... New Look 6808 . I chose version E, which has a boat neck with a sailor style collar detail, it's sleeveless and it has a zip on the side to help with pulling it on and off - but I've since decided it can probably manage without it. As you can probably see, this was my first time finishing an armhole with bias tape and I screwed it up because it wasn't meant to be on show. Having said that, I do quite like it, actually. Escolhi...
