Showing posts with the label stretch fabric

So long, Blogspot. Hello, Wordpress!

I've been wanting to move my blog away from Blogspot for a while but could never be bothered to actually do it. This week was the tipping point though, and I've now fully migrated over to  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . The blogspot address will remain here but all new posts will only appear at  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ .  There are lots of reasons for the move but my biggest one is how hard Blogger has made it for people to subscribe to receive new posts via email. It's such a basic requirement but apparently, they think it's too much to offer.  I'm basing this purely on how I myself prefer to consume this stuff. I can't be arsed with feed readers anymore and emails are easy and convenient. When I receive one, if I fancy reading it, I will click through to it and, if not, I'll just delete it. Another reason is the spat between Google (owners of Blogger) and Instagram/Facebook/Meta. I don't even know if this is still the case anymore ...

{Sew Over It} Roxy Jumper

I made my second Sew Over It Roxy jumper this week and, seeing as I made some adjustments to it, I thought I'd write a blog post detailing what I did in case I want to check back in the future. I really like the pattern. My first one was a buddy sew with Mel from a year ago, almost to the day. Although I love my original version, it is a little bit more cropped than I'm used to and I wanted to try the basic version, without the big sleeves. The fabric I used is a French terry I bought from  Like Sew Amazing  a few months ago and it's ridiculously soft. However, it didn't have the required amount of stretch and I had to recut a slightly longer neckband to fit around my head. I remember having problems attaching the original one as well so I wonder if it is a little bit too tight. Even having to unpick that overclocked seam, I still finished sewing this up in about 3 hours as it's a really quick and easy project. I made a size 10, grading out to a 12 at the hips, jus...

{Megan Nielsen} Ash Jeans

The name Ash very nearly foreshadowed the ultimate fate of these jeans, I must admit. 😂 I made these with  Mel  over one weekend, as another of our buddy sewing sessions. I will say that day 1 did not go well for me. The first of half of day 1 anyway. I am overall pleased with them though so let's dive in and I'll share my thoughts. First things first, sizing. I went with a size 29. My waist fluctuates between 28.5 and 29.5 so I knew it'd be snug on my waist but it would be fine on my hips, according to the measurements. The waistband isn't interfaced though, so that gives you extra wiggle room and I decided to chance it. The gamble paid off: the fit is really good on my waist and hips and it's comfortable. The pattern offers 4 different leg choices which is incredible value for money. I was between the slim and the skinny leg but after doing some maths and comparing that with my fabric, I decided to go for the skinny version. They ended up being a bit too ...

{McCall's} 6886 in Fabworks Scuba

A few weeks ago I was asked if I'd like to be part of a new thing  Fabworks  were trying out. They'd chosen a few of their customers to make something with their fabric of the month for May. Along with the letter, there was a sizeable swatch of the fabric they wanted us to use and it was gorgeous. You can probably guess I said yes, otherwise this would be a pretty pointless blog post introduction. 😆 Although I would never have picked it myself, the fabric is incredible and very unusual. It's called Kaleidoscopic Galaxies and it does remind me of a kaleidoscope. The colours are so saturated and vibrant that you really need to see it in person to fully appreciate it. These photos do not do it justice. The fabric is a scuba, which is stretchy but stable, similar to a ponte roma. But it's a bit spongy like neoprene, although much, much thinner. It's not a fabric that I use a lot but it is very easy to sew with. Since the print is so striking, I wanted to use ...

{Tilly and the Buttons} #rosasewalong - The Reveal

This post should've been up days ago but as soon as I was ready to take some photos, the glorious weather turned to crap and the light was gone... Typical! I finally managed to take so me photos this weekend a nd here is my shiny new Rosa dress!

{Helen's Closet} Blackwood Cardigan

I first tried the  Blackwood Cardigan  at the end of last year. I made 2 back to back and I wear them ALL. THE TIME. I love them. They're smart but super comfortable and I need one in every colour. However, my sewing hiatus happened and plans to make more were postponed.  Cut to the hottest summer I've ever had in this country and long sleeved, cosy cardigans were the furthest thing from my mind. Until last week.

{McCall's} A return to jersey sewing with M6886

The children have been back at school for a couple of weeks, we're settling into our post-summer routine and I'm starting to focus on sewing for the cooler months. As it happens, the Love Sewing magazine I bought last week had McCalls M6886 as the free pattern and I was really excited to give this one a try. Everyone and their mother raves about it. I just needed to go find some fabric. Then, last night, I remembered I already had the perfect fabric for it!

{sewing} My Agneta dress

Next up, my Agnes  + Moneta = Agneta dress! Having fallen head over heels in love with the Agnes pattern - you can read about it here , I had to make a fifth version of it, didn't I? Technically I made it into a dress this time but I suppose it still counts. I don't think the love affair will stop here though. I have fabric for another dress and maybe a top, too. So yes, I think it's safe to assume I'm obsessed and it is set to continue.

{sewing} A heap of Agnes tops

Hello, there! For this post I decided to group together 4 different items, because they've all spawned (what a horrible word!) from the same wonderful pattern:  the Agnes top . So, a little warning: there will be LOTS of photos. I've had my eye on the Agnes pattern since it was launched. It's a pretty basic jersey top at its core, but you can add ruching on the neckline and shoulders, change the sleeve length and/or make them gathered. Very versatile.

{sewing} FINISHED: My second Wren

Yes, I made another. Not surprising, seeing as I loved the first one so much. Only, this time around I chose to go with the elbow length sleeves and gathered skirt. I had enough fabric and wanted to try something different. However, as you can see, the sewing gods had other plans for me...

{sewing} The Wren dress by Colette

Today I give you... The Wren Dress by Colette patterns . The Colette website describes it as a "surplice" dress, which I understand to be a reference to the cross over at the front, kind of like a mock wrap. You can opt for sleeveless or floaty sleeves and a gathered or a panelled, fitted skirt. At the time of its release, Colette had a special offer on which gave you the optional long sleeve download for free. I took advantage of that since I wanted to make something suitable for winter.
