When the True Bias  Shelby  launched a few months ago, I bought the pattern on the day. I absolutely loved everything about it and couldn't wait to get it made. Having been a teenager in the 90s, I have great memories of that time period and my playlists are largely populated by the hits of that decade. The Shelby is a huge throw back to that and I love it for it.  The pattern has short and maxi lengths, jumpsuit or dress options and also 2 types of sleeves: regular or cap. I made the playsuit/romper version with cap sleeves. My bust measurement (33.5in/85cm) put me in between sizes 2 and 4 so I went with 4. My waist and hips would have comfortably fitted into the 2 but I didn't want to risk the sleeves being tight. I was a rebel and went straight in without making a toile first, so I wanted all the insurance I could get. Minus the toile. I know. 🙄😆 I made the playsuit out of 2m of fabric - pattern calls for 2.3m. I had nothing left but didn't have to struggle ...

A couple of months ago I was contacted by Jen from  Sew by the Sea  in Margate. She asked if I was interested in working with one of her fabrics and then sharing a post about my experience. Not being one to say no to gorgeous fabric I agreed and off I went to their website to pick something. I hadn't decided what I wanted to make yet and they have a great choice of fabrics, so it took me a while. When I saw this  Pink Floral Ravishing Rayon  by Dashwood Studio, I thought I would probably come back to it in the end. And I did. I'm a huge lover of coral. Unlike most people, I really like grey. And yellow is another favourite of mine. How could I not? I went backwards and forwards on my pattern choice for a long time. I can't believe it's been 3 weeks since my last blog post! I have been sewing a lot but between the Easter holidays and our trip to France, I haven't had time for blogging.  We had a G-L-O-R-I-O-U-S Easter weekend around these parts. It was sunny and warm and perfect. I went to London on Saturday to see  Aladdin - The Musical  again, this time with Nina. It was still spectacular the second time around. On Sunday, I did precisely nothing and today we went out for a nice breakfast and to get in on the Hotel Chocolat sale. My Easter starts now, thank you very much. 😆 I also finished 2 books, which has been a long time coming. My reading this year has been shameful.  For our Leeds outing this morning, I decided to wear a dress I made last summer but had only worn once so far. Yes, I know this is now my third Sew Over It  Pussy Bow Blouse this year. What can I say? I love the pattern. If I were a nice person, I'd apologise. But I am not a nice person, this is my blog and I make the rules, so...  However, this post will be short and sweet. I have something different to share today and I'm very excited about it: my first proper embroidery project. I did a bit of cross stitching when I was young and I have attempted hand embroidery in the past. But I've never finished anything other than a few cross stitch accents on tea towels - which I never use because I don't want to ruin them! 😂 I've always found embroidery beautiful but, for some reason, it just never grabbed me, even though I've tried to get into it numerous times. Last year I even bought a couple of kits from  Oh Sew Bootiful . I started their beginner sampler earlier this year but it remained unfinished. Until this week! A couple of months ago I decided I was missing some basic, plain trousers in my wardrobe. I wanted something versatile that I could dress up or down, depending on the occasion. A little bit like jeans but not as involved. So when I came across the  True Bias Lander Pants , they looked like the perfect pattern to help me fill that gap. You may remember I made a pair of  Lander shorts  in the summer to check the sizing and it was a success. Now all I needed was to find a suitable fabric. I took a trip to Fabworks to look for some plain bottom weight fabrics and found this  pale pink twill  that looked just like what I had in mind. And here is the result:

Every so often I will come across a fabric that I *have* to buy otherwise I know I will regret it forever. In fact, this isn't exclusive to fabric. I still remember a suede jacket I once thought about buying but decided not to. Sixteen years on, the fact I didn't buy it still haunts me...  This is how I ended up getting this fabric. I saw it on a Sew Over It vlog , paused the video halfway and bought the fabric immediately. I had no idea what I'd make with it but it didn't matter, I just had to have it. Then, I allowed it to languish in my stash for about 2 years. I hate to admit that, at times, I even forgot I had it... Once I started thinking about what I wanted to make for our summer holiday, I decided I had to do something with this fabric. The trick was to keep things simple. These trousers started off as a disaster of epic proportions. I made this pattern for the first time last year . I really like them and wanted a pair for summer. The fabric is (I think) a viscose crepe that I've had in my stash for about 2 years. It was very slippery at times but mostly fun to sew. It pressed beautifully but it doesn't crease much. I'm still unsure as to the suitability of this fabric to the pattern. I think it's too lightweight but the finished trousers do match the vision of what I was going for. It has worked at least aesthetically if not structurally.

I've now started to work on my winter wardrobe. I don't have many dresses I can wear with thick tights and boots. So far, my winter style has always been jeans and a jumper. But I want to have some stuff handy for when I want to look a little less scruffy... This dress is the  McCall's 7533  which I got free with a recent issue of Love Sewing magazine - though I can't remember which.

The children have been back at school for a couple of weeks, we're settling into our post-summer routine and I'm starting to focus on sewing for the cooler months. As it happens, the Love Sewing magazine I bought last week had McCalls M6886 as the free pattern and I was really excited to give this one a try. Everyone and their mother raves about it. I just needed to go find some fabric. Then, last night, I remembered I already had the perfect fabric for it!

I finally finished my shirt of doom ! Check it out! And even though it was the shirt of doom, it's FULL of mistakes and everything went wrong in the making of it, I'm still happy with it.
