So long, Blogspot. Hello, Wordpress!

I've been wanting to move my blog away from Blogspot for a while but could never be bothered to actually do it. This week was the tipping point though, and I've now fully migrated over to  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . The blogspot address will remain here but all new posts will only appear at  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ .  There are lots of reasons for the move but my biggest one is how hard Blogger has made it for people to subscribe to receive new posts via email. It's such a basic requirement but apparently, they think it's too much to offer.  I'm basing this purely on how I myself prefer to consume this stuff. I can't be arsed with feed readers anymore and emails are easy and convenient. When I receive one, if I fancy reading it, I will click through to it and, if not, I'll just delete it. Another reason is the spat between Google (owners of Blogger) and Instagram/Facebook/Meta. I don't even know if this is still the case anymore ...

{Grainline Studio} Sleeveless Archer

When we were in Cambridge last year - not that one, the Massachusetts one! - we visited Harvard University, as you do. And it just so happens that the amazing gather here  is just around the corner! I have to admit that the thought of visiting it had completely escaped me at the time, and it was sheer coincidence that I found the shop in Google maps while we were on the train to Cambridge.  It turned out to be one of the loveliest shops I've ever been to. I was complimented on the dress I was wearing  by the 2 ladies in the shop and, among other things, this gorgeous turquoise Nani Iro double gauze came home with me. It was originally intended to be a Stevie  but, in my excitement, I only bought 1.5m and it is a narrow bolt. No Stevie for me. So I added it to the stash and there it stayed until a couple of weeks ago. I had no idea what to make with it! I then decided an  Ashton top  would be perfect out of this; and a good project to take to the Se...

{Grainline Studio} Farrow Dress

You know when you buy fabric and have absolutely no idea what you'll make with it? That happens to me  all the bloody time  sometimes. Case in point, this gorgeous Dashwood rayon I bought from  Fabricate  last year. As soon as I saw it, I fell in love with the colour and I knew I'd have to make something out of it. But since I didn't know what that was yet, in the fabric box it went and stayed there for some time... If you have read this blog for a little while, you will not be surprised to learn that I had never paid attention to the  Grainline Studio Farrow dress . However, a few months ago Joy shared this  post on Instagram and my brain went "We must make this, we must make this NOW!" Clearly, we didn't, as that happened in November and it is now the following March; but I filed the idea away for a later date.  A couple of weeks ago, I suddenly remembered the fabric was in my stash, matched it up with the pattern in my head and the plan was...

{Grainline Studio} Cherry blossom Archer shirt

Here's one I made earlier. A lot earlier.  I took a long and unintentional break from sewing at the end of 2017. From just before Christmas until the beginning of April I sewed precisely nothing. Then, I decided to help this gorgeous piece of cotton lawn in fulfilling its destiny.

{Grainline Studio} Archer button up

Earlier this year, I was leafing through my Boden catalogue and I fell in love with one of their linen shirts. It was a raspberry pink colour with *I think* white ring poppers, but it could've been white buttons. It was very loose fitting and looked really comfortable. I almost bought it, but with a price tag of over 50 quid, I left it alone. A few days later, I went into my local fabric shop and found a linen and cotton blend in the same colour at only £6/m. I bought it. Then, I decided to bite the bullet, buy the Archer  pattern and make myself a Boden rip off for less than half the price. The only other shirt I'd tried making before was the Sewaholic Granville . It was not a 100% success story but I don't give up easily. This time around, it turned out *exactly*  as I had envisioned it. Isn't it great when that happens? A Boden rip off for around 20 quid. Yes, please! The fit is spot on. I cut a size 2 and didn't make any changes. I love the way it fits...
