I've been wanting to move my blog away from Blogspot for a while but could never be bothered to actually do it. This week was the tipping point though, and I've now fully migrated over to https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . The blogspot address will remain here but all new posts will only appear at https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . There are lots of reasons for the move but my biggest one is how hard Blogger has made it for people to subscribe to receive new posts via email. It's such a basic requirement but apparently, they think it's too much to offer. I'm basing this purely on how I myself prefer to consume this stuff. I can't be arsed with feed readers anymore and emails are easy and convenient. When I receive one, if I fancy reading it, I will click through to it and, if not, I'll just delete it. Another reason is the spat between Google (owners of Blogger) and Instagram/Facebook/Meta. I don't even know if this is still the case anymore ...
Here's one I made earlier.
A lot earlier.
I took a long and unintentional break from sewing at the end of 2017. From just before Christmas until the beginning of April I sewed precisely nothing. Then, I decided to help this gorgeous piece of cotton lawn in fulfilling its destiny.
It's a Grainline Studio Archer shirt, which I made once before and I love it. I wear my other one a lot but since it's linen, it's a bit too cool to wear year round. I made it exactly as is, in a size 2 again. But this time I went with view B, for the gathered skirt on the back. I'm so happy with how it turned out.
The fabric is the best bit though because it'll remind me of being in Dublin every time I wear it. I bought the fabric at Cloth when we were in Dublin last year to see U2. It's a Lady McElroy cotton lawn called Flora Songbird, however, it doesn't look like they do it in white anymore. Having said that, I've just spotted the navy and pink colourway during my Google trawl and now I want it!
When I bought the fabric I knew I was going to make an Archer out of it. The pattern suggests about 2m but I was confident I could squeezed this out of the 1.5m I had bought. I was right. I got all the pieces cut out of it, even the yoke lining, inner stand and under collar. Plus, my print is directional - or I would've had bat-like birds all over the place. It was comfortable, too. No leftovers but no strategic cutting required either.
The buttons are really cute as well. They came from Minverva Crafts and I really like them. They add to the shirt and are a little unconventional but they don't steal focus.
The gathered back skirt is a lovely design element. And oh, so satisfying to sew. I don't know why so many people loathe sewing gathers. It's great for a change to go: No, I will NOT smooth out this seam, thank you very much. It can stay all puckered and I just won't care!
