It seems I am feeling motivated enough to keep on blogging, doesn't it? I'll keep riding this wave for as long as I can but I'm not making any promises... Today I have another shirt to share. Yes, another shirt. No, no one is surprised. But wait... What? Maybe you will be a little bit surprised if I say it's a pattern I haven't made before! Yesterday, while I was working on my shirt - yes, another! - I decided to do a quick photo tutorial to post on my Instagram stories. I was sewing my sleeve plackets and I thought I'd post it here as well. Tower plackets can be really fiddly to sew and I remember from my beginner days how baffling the illustrations on instruction booklets can be, especially if you've never sewn one. Just a couple of disclaimers before we dive in: these photos are all from my sewing room and taken with my phone, so the lighting isn't the best. Also, I had already started sewing before I decided to document the process, so for the first couple of pictures, I'm already a few steps ahead. Right, let's go! So far I haven't done a lot of sewing this year but I made an awesome shirt  last weekend during a surprise real life buddy sewing session with Mel. It was the best start to the new year! We went fabric shopping, did aerial yoga and had a bloody awesome time together. It was so good! But today I wanted to share our last buddy sew of 2019 which was the  Madeleine skirt  from Victory Patterns. This skirt has been on my list for a very long time. I've seen so many gorgeous versions of it as well. It seems to be one of those patterns that looks good on everyone. It has massive pockets, removable suspenders, topstitching for days and a super fancy lapped zip. What's not to like? I made a size 8 as it comes. However, after trying it on before hemming, I chopped 3 inches off the length because on me it was neither midi nor maxi and it looked odd. I felt like I was drowning in fabric slightly. It's no secret I love making shirts. Hell, if you've been following my sewing for a while, you might be sick and tired of being beaten over the head with my shirt making stick by now. I'm not even sorry. 😁 My relationship with shirts wasn't love at first project. My first ever shirt  can only be described as a disaster. I didn't see it like that at the time and it's still in my wardrobe - even if I don't wear it. When I look at it now I find it quite endearing that past me thought it was good enough to wear out of the house. I will never get rid of my first Granville because that's the one that started my love of shirts. When we were in Cambridge last year - not that one, the Massachusetts one! - we visited Harvard University, as you do. And it just so happens that the amazing gather here  is just around the corner! I have to admit that the thought of visiting it had completely escaped me at the time, and it was sheer coincidence that I found the shop in Google maps while we were on the train to Cambridge.  It turned out to be one of the loveliest shops I've ever been to. I was complimented on the dress I was wearing  by the 2 ladies in the shop and, among other things, this gorgeous turquoise Nani Iro double gauze came home with me. I've already told you about my first Kalle dress here  but this version is different enough that I thought it warranted its own blog post. It took me ages to make one Kalle; now I've made 2 and I can see that this may well become a trusty old favourite. My inspiration came from  this post  by  Jaclyn  on Instagram. I have wanted a candy-striped shirt for EVER and I loved Jaclyn's take on it. Quite by chance, I had only just bought  this linen on the Lamazi fabrics website and a lightbulb went off. I bought a 1.3m remnant but they have restocked it now. Man, how I love sewing linen! Ugh, it's like a very polite and well behaved child: it does EXACTLY what you tell it to! What's not to love? And wearing it is even better. This whole outfit is linen and I want to wear it everyday, for the rest of my life. Please and thank you.
