So long, Blogspot. Hello, Wordpress!

I've been wanting to move my blog away from Blogspot for a while but could never be bothered to actually do it. This week was the tipping point though, and I've now fully migrated over to  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . The blogspot address will remain here but all new posts will only appear at  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ .  There are lots of reasons for the move but my biggest one is how hard Blogger has made it for people to subscribe to receive new posts via email. It's such a basic requirement but apparently, they think it's too much to offer.  I'm basing this purely on how I myself prefer to consume this stuff. I can't be arsed with feed readers anymore and emails are easy and convenient. When I receive one, if I fancy reading it, I will click through to it and, if not, I'll just delete it. Another reason is the spat between Google (owners of Blogger) and Instagram/Facebook/Meta. I don't even know if this is still the case anymore ...

{embroidery} Not today!

I have something different to share today and I'm very excited about it: my first proper embroidery project. I did a bit of cross stitching when I was young and I have attempted hand embroidery in the past. But I've never finished anything other than a few cross stitch accents on tea towels - which I never use because I don't want to ruin them! 😂 I've always found embroidery beautiful but, for some reason, it just never grabbed me, even though I've tried to get into it numerous times. Last year I even bought a couple of kits from  Oh Sew Bootiful . I started their beginner sampler earlier this year but it remained unfinished. Until this week! A few weeks ago, my best friend - who could never be arsed with any craft  has never been crafty, despite her mum being an amazing crocheter and the one who taught me how to crochet - has really gotten into hand embroidery. She's sent me photos of her projects, posted stuff online and I decided I wanted to have a g...

Busy, busy, busy and nothing to show for it!

I have been keeping myself incredibly busy the past few days. Especially yesterday. But I don't have anything to show for it, unfortunately. Well, nothing completely finished, that is. However there are lots of bits of things and 'in-progress' shots. Which is a good thing otherwise this would be a pretty boring post. So last week was spent doing some of this: Sprucing up a tea towel  I also found time to catch up on this: Wild Olive Summer Stitching Club 2013 And I worked a little on this: Another tea towel make over in progress But once these arrived, there was not much else happening around here...  New Books! Except for this Grapefruit and Olive Oil pound cake. Which sounds slightly weird but as with every recipe I've ever tried from The Smitten Kitchen , it was lovely. Even Ginner really liked it and he despises grapefruit! Grapefruit and Olive Oil Pound Cake Yesterday was exclusively spent in the sewing room working on curtains for Ch...

The Bag of Doom!!!

I have finally smitten the Bag of Doom! Finalmente derrotei a Sacola dos Horrores! The back of the Bag of Doom Many weeks ago, Liam and I decided we'd make a patchwork bag with embroidery detail to give to his teacher as an end of year present. Boy, oh boy, have I lived to regret that move! It was my first ever attempt at patchwork and, although I learned a lot while working on it, our ship never sailed smooth waters. Well, actually, the embroidery panel went well. Liam wrote the message himself then I enlarged it and transferred it onto the fabric. It is surprisingly difficult to stitch over a child's handwriting. Ele escreveu a mensagem, eu aume...

I've been learning something new!

I'm back. It's been a long time but I've been very busy though. I've been teaching myself to sew better. And I think I've done ok but I'm still a beginner. Craftsy has been extremely helpful and I have discovered DOZENS of wonderful blogs about sewing, quilting and embroidery. Voltei. My first ever bag
