So long, Blogspot. Hello, Wordpress!

I've been wanting to move my blog away from Blogspot for a while but could never be bothered to actually do it. This week was the tipping point though, and I've now fully migrated over to  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . The blogspot address will remain here but all new posts will only appear at  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ .  There are lots of reasons for the move but my biggest one is how hard Blogger has made it for people to subscribe to receive new posts via email. It's such a basic requirement but apparently, they think it's too much to offer.  I'm basing this purely on how I myself prefer to consume this stuff. I can't be arsed with feed readers anymore and emails are easy and convenient. When I receive one, if I fancy reading it, I will click through to it and, if not, I'll just delete it. Another reason is the spat between Google (owners of Blogger) and Instagram/Facebook/Meta. I don't even know if this is still the case anymore

{Sew Over It} It's another Pussy Bow Blouse

Yes, I know this is now my third Sew Over It  Pussy Bow Blouse this year. What can I say? I love the pattern. If I were a nice person, I'd apologise. But I am not a nice person, this is my blog and I make the rules, so...  However, this post will be short and sweet. I promise.  I have to be honest and admit that I wasn't actually going to write a blog post for this version. Everything else is still the same as the original, except for the neckline - this time I made the v-neck option. If you missed that original post, you can find it  here . "So why are you wasting everybody's time like this?", I hear you ask. Well... I have two reasons. One: I got a new camera which only arrived on Monday. Since we've been having a new boiler fitted and I haven't been able to sew, this is the only thing I had to hand. And when you get a new toy like that, the law says you have to play with it immediately, right?  Ok, maybe there is no such law... Listen,

{Jennifer Lauren Handmade} Ivy Pinafore in denim

I'm back with my new Ivy pinafore. Isn't she preeeeettay??? When I bought the denim  from Sewisfaction for my  Ginger jeans  I bought enough to make an Ivy as well. The  red one  was more like a trial run to see how the pattern would suit me. I think I mentioned in that post that the red babycord was a bit too lightweight for the pattern. Don't get me wrong, it still works and I've worn it a few times but it could do to have more body. This denim is perfect though. It does have some stretch but I didn't find that to make much of a difference, except for one small thing: that weirdness going on around my dart. Can you see it? It kind of sticks out. I can't decide if I stretched it or if the dart is sitting too low. It's only visible in this photo above. I'll have to pay attention when I wear the red one again and compare but I'm sure I would've noticed it if I noticed it on this one. I think it's just a case of pressing it too vigorou

{Jennifer Lauren Handmade} Pippi Pinafore

Sewing can be a solitary hobby. Even more so when, like me, you don't have friends who sew. I've always envied those who can get together with a friend and go fabric shopping or spend an afternoon sewing together. Hell, I'd be happy if I had someone who I could just talk to about sewing! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the friends I have. Most of them are somewhat interested and are happy to have a quick conversation about my sewing. From time to time, Ginner will unwittingly and graciously listen to my sewing waffle. But I get nothing back, you know? None of them will suddenly interject with a pattern suggestion for a fabric I'm stumped by, or send me an Instagram post of a great version of a pattern I'm thinking about making. Recently, that has changed for me though. I still don't have a local friend I can meet up and go fabric shopping with. But I have my " best bitch ", Mel. We started chatting on Instagram last year. Now we graduated to consta

{man sewing} CARAVAN SHIRT OF DREAMS!!!

Today I have something a bit different to share. I've made Ginner something for a change!!! Well, actually this particular one I made ages ago. December 2017, I believe. But for some reason, I completely forgot to share it.  Ginner is partial to a loud shirt. Loud, garish, gaudy. He's all over it. We were on a camping holiday in Norfolk when he spotted this in a fabric shop. As soon as he saw it, he asked me if I could make him a shirt out of it. This was in 2014. I had only just finished my first ever shirt and it hadn't been a complete success. But I said I would once I felt confident enough to make one for him. Two and a half years later, he had one! 😂 The pattern is Simplicity 1544 . I was worried about making something for him because he's not very tall, he has a massive neck, wide upper body and short legs and arms. Haha! I know. After agonising over the finished measurements for ages, I decided to cut a straight 38 because that should fit his chest.

{Tilly and the Buttons} Ness Skirt

This pattern has been in my pattern box since it came out. Not only that, I won a kit to make this skirt from Fabricate 's Sew Saturday celebrations last year. That was in October! I can't believe how long it's taken me to come round to finally making this. There always seemed to be something getting in the way... The Ness skirt is another hit from Her Majesty, Queen Tilly. It has a yoke in the back for shaping, jeans style pockets on the back and the front and there's a zip fly closure. The pattern offers 2 options - a mini skirt and a below the knee version, with a centre front split. It's a very jeans-like skirt, actually. It would be a great warm-up for someone who's never made jeans before. You get all the traditional jeans styling, topstitching and heavier fabric without the potential headache that trouser fitting can sometimes cause. For my version, I chose the mini skirt option. I was a bit worried it might be too short and I considered lengtheni
