So long, Blogspot. Hello, Wordpress!

I've been wanting to move my blog away from Blogspot for a while but could never be bothered to actually do it. This week was the tipping point though, and I've now fully migrated over to  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . The blogspot address will remain here but all new posts will only appear at  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ .  There are lots of reasons for the move but my biggest one is how hard Blogger has made it for people to subscribe to receive new posts via email. It's such a basic requirement but apparently, they think it's too much to offer.  I'm basing this purely on how I myself prefer to consume this stuff. I can't be arsed with feed readers anymore and emails are easy and convenient. When I receive one, if I fancy reading it, I will click through to it and, if not, I'll just delete it. Another reason is the spat between Google (owners of Blogger) and Instagram/Facebook/Meta. I don't even know if this is still the case anymore

{Hey June Handmade} Willamette Shirt

Are you sick of my shirts yet? If the answer is yes you might wanna skip this one. But before you do, I will say one thing: this shirt is unlike any shirt I've ever made. In so many ways.  Okay, so if you're sticking with me, I'm talking about the  Willamette shirt  by  Hey June Handmade . They have been on my radar since I saw  this post  on April's blog. I hadn't heard of them until then but once I checked them out, I liked quite a few of their patterns. They're all wardrobe staples but with little details that make them interesting or different in some way. I love when pattern companies do that.

{technique} How I sew a collar

In preparation for the #rosasewalong , today I'm sharing a step-by-step guide on how I insert my shirt collars. Tilly's pattern instructions are some of the best ones around. They're very detailed and with clear pictures. Having said that, I prefer to insert my collars differently from what's outlined in the Rosa instruction booklet. I like to think I've come a long way from my first ever button-up shirt . Although I still have it in my wardrobe, I wear it and I don't think I'll ever get rid of it, it was a bit of a disaster. Mostly owing to the collar. In hindsight, I was far too inexperienced a sewist to have attempted it then. I had no idea how to insert a collar, I didn't know I had to ease in excess fabric and the instructions on that pattern, although perfectly adequate, are a bit on the minimal side. Fast forward 3 years and I've made a few shirts  and  shirtdresses  and there are many others I have never blogged about. It's safe to

{Deer and Doe} Melilot shirt x2

Shirts are by far my favourite thing to make. They're a more involved kind of project but they're worth every second. I enjoy the whole process and I find that a properly inserted collar gives me enormous satisfaction. Maybe I need to get out more. 😅 When I bought this Atelier Brunette Pink Moonstone viscose from  Sew Me Sunshine  I knew straight away I wanted to make a shirt out of it. I only had to figure out which one. I've had the  Mélilot  pattern for ages. I love  Deer and Doe . If I had to pick a designer to sew forever, they'd probably be at the top of the list. I've made a few of their patterns and they're always winners. I'm a sucker for their contemporary styling as well and it gets me every time. I want to make all their patterns. True story. I'd found my shirt pattern but I didn't dare cut into my precious, pretty expensive, slippery fabric willy nilly. Now, I don't do toiles. But I often make practise versions of patter

{announcement} The Rosa Sewalong

The house re-wiring is over and it was every bit as bad as I thought it was going to be. Ugh! The dust and mess were unbelievable. But we're back to normality and I'll even have some sewing to share pretty soon! Anyway, this post is a bit different. We've already announced it on  Instagram  but I wanted to do it here, too.
