Showing posts with the label patch pockets

So long, Blogspot. Hello, Wordpress!

I've been wanting to move my blog away from Blogspot for a while but could never be bothered to actually do it. This week was the tipping point though, and I've now fully migrated over to  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . The blogspot address will remain here but all new posts will only appear at  https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ .  There are lots of reasons for the move but my biggest one is how hard Blogger has made it for people to subscribe to receive new posts via email. It's such a basic requirement but apparently, they think it's too much to offer.  I'm basing this purely on how I myself prefer to consume this stuff. I can't be arsed with feed readers anymore and emails are easy and convenient. When I receive one, if I fancy reading it, I will click through to it and, if not, I'll just delete it. Another reason is the spat between Google (owners of Blogger) and Instagram/Facebook/Meta. I don't even know if this is still the case anymore ...

{True Bias} Yari Jumpsuit

You know when you pass up on a pattern, end up making it eventually and then kick yourself for not making it sooner because you love it so much? Yeah... That. This is how I feel about the True Bias   Yari Jumpsuit . What a marvellous pattern! It is slightly loose-fitting, has big  angled patch pockets set into the seams, a V-neck and front button closure. I made view C, which is the sleeveless trousers version. I also opted for the d-rings on the waist to help with definition. My measurements span 3 sizes so I cut the 4 at the top and graded out to an 8 on the hips. It took about 2.5m of 150cm wide fabric for my size, I believe. The fabric is a medium to heavyweight dark green drill I got from Barry's in Birmingham last year when I visited the shop with Mel. Man, I miss going fabric shopping with her! 😭😭 It has some stretch to it and it's really soft and smooth. It feels sand washed to me, almost velvety. I can't stop rubbing my hands up and down it when I wear it.  It ...

{Helen's Closet} York Pinafore

I'm back from the  Sewing Weekender  with a massive hangover (not that kind though) and feeling rather bummed that it went by so quickly. But, boy did I have fantastic weekend! And I even managed to sew something from start to finish.  It's the  York Pinafore  from Helen's Closet and it fills me with joy. It was the perfect pattern to take with me. I finished it on the Saturday, even with all the chatting, and it was ready to wear on Sunday. It's a very simple pattern but if you're not a fan of bias binding, stay away. 🤣 The pattern offers 2 views. I went with the dipped neckline and patch pockets. My hip measurements put me in a size 10 but I thought the finished measurements of the 8 looked alright so I went with that. The top is a 6 though, which I graded out just at the bottom of the armholes/waist. The fabric I used is this  drill from Guthrie and Ghani , which I bought in June when I visited the shop with my friend Mel. It's the perfect fabr...

{Helen's Closet} Blackwood Cardigan

I first tried the  Blackwood Cardigan  at the end of last year. I made 2 back to back and I wear them ALL. THE TIME. I love them. They're smart but super comfortable and I need one in every colour. However, my sewing hiatus happened and plans to make more were postponed.  Cut to the hottest summer I've ever had in this country and long sleeved, cosy cardigans were the furthest thing from my mind. Until last week.

{True Bias} Lander Pants and B6175

A couple of months ago I decided I was missing some basic, plain trousers in my wardrobe. I wanted something versatile that I could dress up or down, depending on the occasion. A little bit like jeans but not as involved. So when I came across the  True Bias Lander Pants , they looked like the perfect pattern to help me fill that gap. You may remember I made a pair of  Lander shorts  in the summer to check the sizing and it was a success. Now all I needed was to find a suitable fabric. I took a trip to Fabworks to look for some plain bottom weight fabrics and found this  pale pink twill  that looked just like what I had in mind. And here is the result:

{True Bias} Lander pants/shorts

Is anyone still out there...? My sewing motivation took a real nose dive at the end of last year and I actually didn't touch my sewing machine for about 6 months. Thankfully I'm over that hump now and I've been sewing up a storm for the last couple of months. I have a backlog of stuff to blog about and had even decided on a rough schedule and everything. But all of that went right out of the window last night because... Well, these happened.

{sewing} Colette Patterns' Laurel dress

Hello! Today I have the  Colette Laurel  to show you. It's a simple shift dress, with elbow length sleeves, a zip closure in the back, bust and back darts. There is also a variation for a pullover top and another to add gathered cuffs on the sleeves.
