I've been wanting to move my blog away from Blogspot for a while but could never be bothered to actually do it. This week was the tipping point though, and I've now fully migrated over to https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . The blogspot address will remain here but all new posts will only appear at https://patsypoomakes.wordpress.com/ . There are lots of reasons for the move but my biggest one is how hard Blogger has made it for people to subscribe to receive new posts via email. It's such a basic requirement but apparently, they think it's too much to offer. I'm basing this purely on how I myself prefer to consume this stuff. I can't be arsed with feed readers anymore and emails are easy and convenient. When I receive one, if I fancy reading it, I will click through to it and, if not, I'll just delete it. Another reason is the spat between Google (owners of Blogger) and Instagram/Facebook/Meta. I don't even know if this is still the case anymore
Happy new year! I haven't done a lot of sewing in 2021 yet but I do have something to share today.
I don't usually blog about repeat garments but I made some changes to this one and I wanted to leave a written, searchable record of them for my own convenience really. I made the True Bias Roscoe again. In another dreamy Atelier Brunette fabric but this time it was this stunning double gauze. I got mine from Fabricate but unfortunately they don't have anymore of it in stock in this colourway. They do have the deep green, which is almost as nice. 😁
I really love this red, I must say. It's a bugger to capture in photos but it's a gorgeous, rich, deep red. It would actually be an excellent Christmas dress as it happens.
Anyway, the sizing is exactly as before - check the blog post here for the rundown. Now on to what I changed: first, the neck opening. On my original one, the opening is a bit too low for me to wear it undone. For this version I shortened it by an inch, so it hits a little higher and that's perfect now, as you can see below. I had a vest on, which is what is peeking out because it was bloody cold - look at the snow still on the grass.
Another change I made was making the sleeves full length. I went with this post by Lauren Taylor and did pretty much what she did, which was: lengthen the sleeves by 5 inches and take 3 inches of fullness at the bottom so they don't balloon out too much. Lauren used an elastic at the wrist though, which I didn't so I also shortened the cuff band by one inch.
My last modification was to take 2 inches off the bodice. Last time, I had to shorten the ruffle after the dress was finished, but I preferred the original, deeper ruffle. So I fixed it this time around.
I am delighted with this dress. The double gauze is probably borderline for this pattern in terms of fluidity but I think I got away with it. It's also surprisingly warm and oh, so comfy! Absolute winner all around and I'm now sewing up a top version. 🤣🙌
